Week 8.

WEEK 8 Regardless of what you think of the most recent deaths, four more people have died this week. Milla Maxwell, Angel, Susan Ashworth, and Aligula are gone now, leaving you with about a quarter of your original number. Thirty-five down to twelve - this can't keep going for much longer, can it? Is there anything you can do? Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Unlike the previous weeks, however, it seems that either you've reached the end of the line or Jericho has decided to stop rewarding you for your effort; where there would usually be a stairwell to a new floor, you're met with nothing but solid wall. Perhaps it's distressing; perhaps it's a good sign. Only time will tell, and time isn't something you have a lot of around here. PARTICIPANTS REMAINING: 12

[Do... Do you want to just check the bottle, Alex, it's right up there on the counter still, along with some glasses.]

It's okay, it happens. [She sounds like she's trying to be reassuring.] Magi can have strange appearances, by working with magecraft beyond they're level, or if they're exposed to magics they're incompatible with.

[In a bit of a sing-song voice, Rin dangles her pendant necklace over her face, watching the red jewel sparkle in the light.]

Archer was like that. His red hair turned white, and his brown eyes to silver. When he was born he had fair skin, but by his early 20s it started to turn brown.

[Man, who even knows what the heck this is. Rin usually drinks brandy, but she was experimenting? Dang these weird dimensions and their off-brands, because hell if this one is recognizable.

It does have an alcohol content note on it, though, and it seems to be going by the more American means of measuring it than the Japanese. 12.0 proof. That's weird. Are proofs usually measured in decimals...?]

[ ...Ohhhh, she's an absolutely wasted idiot--

Eyes just about bulging from her head, Alex does try to listen to Rin's ramblings. Is she...what, talking about magic affecting appearance?

While she's...getting her some water, a big old glass of water, Alex decides to ask: ] Who's Archer?

[That's indeed what she's talking about! Fun fact: Sakura is an example of this effect in action too. When she was younger, she and Rin had the same hair and eye color. Then magic happened.

Okay, so that's more of a sad fact.

...who's Archer, though? Rin laughs again, but it's stranger this time. A little more high-pitched, but she cuts it off.]

My Servant. The Servant I summoned for the Holy Grail War.

[ ...Has she accidentally stepped on a landmine? Just the name... ]

Is that...an important duty you have? From back home?

Mm. [She smiles, twisting to follow Alex's movements.] I trained hard, and looked forward to it for ten years.

...And then...you ended up here, right?

[ She hands Rin the water. Drink up, okay? ]

[heritrix]

Oh, it's over already, I just don't remember it.

[She takes the water, and it sloshes a bit without spilling. After the burn the last few drinks she had left behind, it's quite cool and refreshing.]

I summoned my Archer, and I liked our relationship. I still think of him as my partner, even though he betrayed me.

[She takes a longer drink this time.]

How'd he betray you?

[ She settles in to listen; it seems...this looks like something Rin needs to talk about. ]

[Oh god, Alex, it's just the tip of the iceberg.]

It doesn't matter, it was dumb. He did it just to get away from me, because as long as I was his Master he couldn't disobey my orders, and I'd ordered him not to kill Shirou.

I take it...Shirou's a friend? Why would your uh...partner want to kill your friend?

[heritrix]

[If it wasn't obvious she was drunk before now, it'll become quickly obvious here and her mood shifts on a dime, expression pinching like there's something thick in her throat. Rin's voice cracks with grief.]

Because he wanted to die. [No, it was worse than that. Tears prick at the corners of her eyes, and the water in her glass wobbles unsteadily.] He wanted to erase himself...

[ Ah. Oh, oh there's a lot of questions here that--

Alex goes to her knees by Rin now, not quite sure how to approach this. ]

He... He is your friend, but- a different version of him?
