WEEK 5.

WEEK 5

Tabitha Smith, Sigrun Eide, and Solf J Kimblee are all dead. Regardless of what you think of the trial or the events leading up to it, there's no denying that you can feel the dent in your numbers now. After all, ten people are gone now.

It may be hard, but all you can do is keep going.

Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost...

What with Jericho's excitement at the last trial, it's evident now more than ever that the new floor that's opened up to you is a gift, a reward for a job well-done. Because while surviving is something that you'll continue to try to do of your own merit...well.

Let's say that he's so, so very proud of you.

By now I don't think anyone has any doubt that they would do exactly as they say. They would likely only need to take one or two before someone panicked and complied.

But the person who panicked and complied would still be responsible for doing so. Everyone here has a choice, even if they are threatened. Doing something wrong because you are frightened does not make it acceptable.

True, yes. The fault ultimately lies with that person. I of all people would have no trouble saying so. Sacrifices must be made for the greater good.

...Yet I wouldn't want that one thing to completely ruin my memory of them.

...I suppose that is the difference between us. I am not so forgiving of such a grave crime. I am more interested in justice than mercy.

I wonder... Though I might say such things, I do not have the luxury of letting my heart make my decisions for me. Yet I suppose I carry these thoughts because I wish I did, to some extent.

When I killed Maxwell I vowed that I would protect spirit and human alike, no matter the cost.

[A small nod.]

It would be lovely if we were in a situation where forgiving those who seek to cause harm would be safe for any of us. But... I have never known such a world.

In this, as any, one cannot turn a blind eye to the misdeeds of others. While it is important to value individuals, no individual can be allowed to outweigh the many. Thus we are all equals and must all be held to the same standards.

I believe that is the reason that we are still able to form bonds and foster trust even in this situation.

[She nods.]

It is certainly disappointing that some have bowed to the wishes of our captors, but truth be told, it is something I expected. However... It truly does make me hopeful to see so many people here growing close to one another. That is not something I strictly anticipated.

[personal profile] spiritform 2017-10-13 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I suspected as much from the start. Unfortunate as it is, compared to the threats of our captors, we are only individuals who have known each other for a short time.

Even so, I think it's only natural that we would seek companionship with one another as time goes on. After all we are, right now the only allies that we can hope for.
bloodbiter: (forearms so meaty i could feed)

[personal profile] bloodbiter 2017-10-13 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
I had hope that after successfully finding the first few culprits, the others would realize that any attempt in killing another here would result in their own death, but... It appears that has not happened.

[A small, slightly sad smile.]

I had thought, initially, that fear and distrust would turn us against each other after we discovered the terms of this twisted situation. I am glad to see that many here are stronger than I gave them credit for, though.

[personal profile] spiritform 2017-10-13 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
Likewise. But then... that is likely why our captors continue to invent increasingly distressing motivators. Some may think they can do it better, but I doubt that is the reason it has gone on for quite as long as it has now.

But you are correct. Even now we are all finding our own ways to fight back. It makes me happy to see so many refusing to lose heart.
bloodbiter: (i'm the only one who can walk)

[personal profile] bloodbiter 2017-10-13 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the reason it has gone on this long is because they have a strong understanding of what it would take people to act.

[She nods.]

I only wish it were more effective at stopping all of this.
