WEEK 5
Tabitha Smith, Sigrun Eide, and Solf J Kimblee are all dead. Regardless of what you think of the trial or the events leading up to it, there's no denying that you can feel the dent in your numbers now. After all, ten people are gone now.

It may be hard, but all you can do is keep going.

Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost...

What with Jericho's excitement at the last trial, it's evident now more than ever that the new floor that's opened up to you is a gift, a reward for a job well-done. Because while surviving is something that you'll continue to try to do of your own merit...well.

Let's say that he's so, so very proud of you.

It was wrong of them to hide it from you.

[That much is obvious to her.]

Yes it was. [ She snarls this- ] They'd only barely been handling it! They'd let a human in on our secret, like he's someone that can be trusted, she keeps going to that school and now they've tolerated a halfbreed on top of it? Sure, Henry's the head of the household now and I'll accept it but it's absurd, to let it sit like this when he life's in danger!

...How do you know the other person they have told cannot be trusted?

Because he's a human! ... They seem so sure of it now, but he's still human, and what's more a human who seems to think that him and Karin can be an item? That's like saying that a tucan's going to fall in love with a condor! It's just silly!

That doesn't necessarily make him untrustworthy or unfit to be with her, does it?

Yes it does.

[ She hisses that out. ]

May I ask why?

I already said why. He's human.

[ Humans haven taken so much from her - from her whole species - to even pretend that they're trustworthy, her actions in this damned murder school aside. But perhaps even more important than that: ]

Just because he's ignorant doesn't mean he's going to accept it when he learns the reality that a vampire and a human have no future like that.

That is not a reason. There are plenty of trustworthy humans.

Why do you believe they cannot?

It's not belief, it's fact.

[ Clearly starting to get annoyed with this questioning of her and her believes, her tone is growing colder, her eyes shifting past being merely predatory to a strange even more surreal, alien state. ]

A pairing of a human and a vampire has no future.

If there is a reason for that, though, I should like to hear it.

[ She can't take this. Elda stands now, leaping to her feet and shouting this next part, her eyes wide and fangs barred. Where does this girl get off- ]

A child between a vampire and a human is an abomination! Human most of the time and then vampire a fraction of the time, but without most of the abilities, so they can't even hunt properly. Their misbegotten bodies are often a source of endless suffering for them, but that's not the key thing- no, the key thing-

Is that without fail, a halfbreed has no reproductive capability. A pairing between a vampire and a human is a dead end, their children will simply live, suffer, and die! The family ends there!

[She takes a moment to think all of it over. As someone who knows she will want children someday, it's strange to think about. Still...]

Is Karin herself willing to accept that?

Who knows? I've been too soft on her.

[ She deflates a little, hanging her head. ] Allowed her to run around with that boy in the hopes she would see this silly little romance through to the end herself. She didn't even know about all that dead end reality until I told her recently.

And how did she react, when you told her?

[ . . . Tch. ]

That was when she admitted to me that she wasn't a normal vampire. The - the moment was tense. Her feelings are still unclear to me.

...I will hope that you recall more about the situation soon, then.

As do I. Honestly... I caused so many problems for her at the time I retreated away to the basement to research and sleep. I left her to her devices.

What sort of problems?

[ Her expression turns a lot more awkward, a lot more sheepish. She laughs a little and itches her cheek. Ah... ]

Nothing that bares repeating, but it was a hassle for her.

...I see. But - you are family. I'm sure she does not hold it against you.

... Well, in time, I'm sure.

[ :T ]

And... For everything else, I will hope that it turns out as well as it can.

[A pause.]

Though I feel as though you're going to scold me for saying so.

No, no, I shall refrain.

[ Honestly, the optimism, when it sounds so baseless is frustrating. But... this one is based on hope. So...

It's better, she guesses. ]

[A nod, and then a pause.]
