WEEK 6.

WEEK 6 You've lost a lot of people this week, haven't you? Katniss Everdeen and Weiss Schnee were killed for rule violations, while Chie Hori and Frank Archer were murdered by Mikoto Suoh and Yuuki Terumi. It doesn't really matter how they died, though, does it? After all, they're dead now and the only thing you can do is keep moving forward. It seems like there's no end in sight. Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; come Sunday morning, the clock chimes the hour at seven o'clock and there are no dead bodies to be found, so it can be assumed that all of you are safe for the time being. That said, you'll be feeling a little groggy when you wake up; it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Changes were promised to you this week; while Sunday dawns seeming no different from the previous weeks, it seems one change is going to remain a constant - namely, a new floor has been opened up to you. Whether this is a promising sign or not is something that you're going to need to decide for yourself. The important thing, for now, is that you continue to do well. PARTICIPANTS REMAINING: 19

[...Ah. Which one was it, she wonders? She could see it being Sigrun. Rin skirts past the question smoothly.]

That would depend on your definition of "skilled". [She laughs.] I've taken down a playground bully or two?

[bloodbiter]

[It gets a small huff of a laugh, and a nod.]

It's certainly preferable to having no skill. But, if you'd be interested, perhaps you could show me?

[heritrix]

[Rin looks at the door, but then seems to agree, moving to stand to one side.]

Whenever you're ready.

[bloodbiter]

[She gives a nod, taking up a defensive stance as she moves closer. She'll wait for Rin to make the first move, though.]

[heritrix]

[Very well, then. When Rin recognizes Adelina intends to see what she does first, she makes her move. Rin's just a normal human, but it happens quickly—a distinctive charging step that sees her cross the distance between them with surprising swiftness, and get in close for a jab aimed at Adelina's side.]

[bloodbiter]

[Her normal style of fighting is far different than this, but it's still left her swift and attentive, a strategist by nature.

When she sees that hit coming, she doesn't have time to dodge it. There's a small noise as it lands, but she brings up a hand to try and grab onto Rin's arm as it lands so she can get her off balance. At the same time, she aims a kick at one of her legs.]

[heritrix]

[This is just a spar, so Rin's not going all out. When she feels her arm get grabbed, she opts not to try to get away. Instead she slides her feet, trying to minimize the brunt of that kick as best as she can while attempting to trip Adelina up as well.]

Nice, Adelina! You have quick reactions.

[If her arm is grabbed, she'll jerk it up suddenly in the hopes Adelina will hold on as well, for a light palm strike just below her chest. As a strategist, Adelina might note her motions are quick and comfortable in this close proximity.]

[bloodbiter]

[The compliment gets a smile and a certain nod.]

You seem rather adept as well.

[She definitely keeps her hold on the girl's arm, leaving her vulnerable. As she says that, she tries to bring her arm up sharply to block the strike Rin gives towards her abdomen, but she's not quite as quick as the other young woman. The strike sends her back a step, but she moves back into position after a momentary hesitation.

Now, she uses their continued proximity to aim a elbow at Rin's ribs; of course, the pause from a moment ago may have given the other girl time to prepare herself for such a thing.]

[heritrix]

[Elbow strikes are a common blow to deal with in the martial art Rin trains in, and the only sparring partner she's ever had was monstrously strong. When Adelina was pushed back a step, her grip probably loosened on Rin's arm juuust enough...!

Turning her body to block the blow with her free arm, Rin's then going to twist to turn that into a shoulder check, hand snaking out to grab Adelina's arm while trying to pull her own not completely free, but into a better range of motion. Enough to bodily toss Adelina over her shoulder.]

[bloodbiter]

[Her eyes widen slightly as she realizes what Rin is about to do, but she doesn’t have the leverage to stop it from happening. She goes over the other girl’s shoulder with a soft noise of surprise, but once she hits the ground, she’s immediately trying to get back on her feet.]

Well done.

[heritrix]

That's one point for me. [Rin's already backing up, giving them both room to start fresh.] How far should we take this? We leapt into things without setting ground rules.

[bloodbiter]

Ah, I didn't think of that.

[And yet, she doesn't hesitate for long.]

I would be willing to continue if you are.

[heritrix]

I can go for a bit longer. Just let me know when you're tired or need to break.

[And so Rin will get into a stance again! Do you want to thread it out, or timeskip ahead a bit, after a few bouts?]

[bloodbiter]

[As discussed over plurk, here we go with a timeskip to the end!]

I think you're more talented in this area than you give yourself credit for.

[heritrix]

And yet you still got the better of me, here and there.

[Rin is looking pleased with herself, but also baffled. That was a good workout, but Adelina surprised her more than once. Where did that one attack come from, in the second bout?]

I'm glad I downplayed my skill. I'd be embarrassed now if I'd talked myself up, only for you to blindside me like you did.

[bloodbiter]

[A shake of her head.]

You needn't be embarrassed by it. Everyone has a weakness. After all, you still performed admirably.

[heritrix]

You said you're an amateur though, didn't you? [She doesn't sound sore recalling this; more like it's interesting to her.] You have sharp eyes.

[bloodbiter]

Ah, well...

[A humble dip of her head.]

I had to learn to pick up on such things quickly, I suppose.

[heritrix]

Pick up? You had no training?

[bloodbiter]

Yes, that's correct. I had no interest in such things when I was younger, until it became crucial for me to know them.

[heritrix]

So it's something you learned along the way, on that quest.

[Rin sighs, and shakes her head.]

That's so dangerous.

[bloodbiter]

Sometimes we don’t have a choice but to do something risky.

[But she shifts the topic after that.]

What about you? How did you learn to fight?

[heritrix]

[Hm? Oh.]

I was taught, of course.

[bloodbiter]

So there wasn't a particular reason that you needed to learn?

[heritrix]

I didn't say that.

[Leaning against the wall, Rin fans herself with her hand. Her sleeves are rolled up, to cool down.]

If I was going to be selected to participate in the Fifth Holy Grail War, I needed a few tricks up my sleeve. It's unorthodox for magi to fight with their fists, so that would give me an edge, potentially.
